Emerging from Darkness
TITLE: Emerging from Darkness
Being an illustrator, I mainly deal in realism but I occasionally dabble with surrealism, abstract, impressionism, abstract impressionism and abstract expressionism. These became elements in a number of my street and urban photographs of the Beasley neighbourhood photo essay, including this one of a woman walking ahead of me, southbound, on Hughson Street North.
The metaphor of stepping from the shadow into the light isn't restricted to how Beasley has been working its way out of a dismal reputation but is applicable to a wide range of circumstances in life anywhere. Anyone can put their own spin on this image. The overall composition of this piece itself is even somewhat reflective of the taijitu or yin yang symbol.
